A New Stone: Hypersthene

I love seeing a stone for the first time.  I was still  going over the new stones for Boskone from my lapidary and there are 2 gorgeous pieces of hypersthene. ( I don't have a clue how to pronounce it.)

It's related to labradorite.  The two I have are black with intense silver lines and chatoyant reflections.  (I'm packing jewelry tonight and tomorrow so there's no time for a photo right now.)

Mineralogically speaking it's actually called enstatite and this form is esnstatite with iron (Mg,Fe)2Si2O6).  It's a magnesium silicate.

I love the fact that there will always be stones that I'm seeing for the first time.

Stones are packed, including a pair of pearls that will make perfect dragon fly wings.  Another first time,  I've never had pearls that would work this way before.

Really looking forward to Boskone.  It's a place I get to see a lot of people who don't pass my way very often.  Hope I see lots of you there.

Back to work.
